3 Different Ways to Shop for a Boat

1st Option - Boat Dealers
The best way to shop for a boat is go through a boat dealer, especially if you're not familiar with boating. A dealer should be able to assist you in finding the appropriate boat size, type and price for your specific needs. Every boat is different. So, by shopping at dealers you will be able to get a hands on approach as to what boat fits you needs the most.

2nd Option - Online Shopping
There are thousands of boats online which may be your boat shopping be a bit easier, especially if you don't have enough time to drive to different boat dealers. We always highly recommend NOT to buy a boat sight unseen unless you had a survey or a mechanical inspection of the boat, especially when buying from a private seller.

3rd Option - Shop my word of mouth
Just by asking friends or family may help you find a great on a boat that isn't even on the market yet.

1st Option - Private Sale
A private sale consists of you selling your boat directly to a buyer with no middle man in-between. This can be a good option when your are typically not in a rush to sell your boat and don't mind dealing with a lot of tire-kickers wasting your time.

2nd Option - Consigning or Brokering your boat
This consists of advertising and listing your boat with a dealer or broker. This is a great option when you are not in a hurry to sell.  A good dealer or broker should be able to bring you a fair market value of your boat even after the commission.

3rd Option - Sell Your Boat Outright to a Dealer or Wholesaler. 
This is an excellent option when you would rather sell your boat quickly and easily as possible.  This is typically the best option when you want to turn your boat into cash the fastest.

Tips on Increasing your Boat's Top Speed

1st Tip - Appropriate Propeller Style and Pitch
The first tip we recommend is assuring your propeller has the appropriate style and pitch. If your propeller is pitched too high or too low it will dramatically effect your performance.  We recommend contacting a prop specialists to help you save some time and money when selecting the correct style and pitch of your prop.

2nd Tip - Adjusting your engine's height
The engine height of your vessel could dramatically affect the performance.  As simply said, if your engine is mounted too low it maybe causing excessive drag and slowing you down.  On the flip side, If your engine is mounted too high, it maybe cavitating your engine which causes excessive slip and overall reduced speed.

3rd Tip - Reduced the weight of your boat
This may be as easy as running your boat with less fuel or as extensive as removing extra accessories that may be weighing you down.

Tips on How to Finance a Boat

Welcome to episode 2 of #TipTuesday! Today we decided to share a couple of tips on how to finance a boat. Typically there are 3 main components that banks look for when financing a boat. 

Your Credit - Since a boat is generally considered a luxury item, you need good credit in most cases.
Proof of Income -  Most banks require pay stubs, tax returns or another proof of income. 
Collateral - In order for a bank to get you approved, they need to find the value of your prospective boat.  Banks generally use book values or appraised values to establish collateral which could influence your down payment or monthly payments dramatically.
